Research
I’m interested in the science of meditation and in particular the impact of meditation practices on our mental health and social functioning. While substantial studies on meditation have shown promising results, most of these studies focused only on individual level and adopted secular approaches by detaching religious traditions. To examine whether religious contemplative exercises could effectively produce fostering outcomes as shown in secular meditation, my research will focus on testing the efficacy of two Heart-Centred contemplations using meditation-based interventions. It aims to:

  1. Explore whether the practice of religious contemplation helps promotes human flourishing.
  2. Compare the outcomes of religious exercises to the secular meditation intervention which has shown effective in other studies.
  3. Identify the mechanisms underlying the outcomes.

Biography
I have always been interested in different areas of psychology, so I took on a degree course related to human behavior during my undergraduate program in Hong Kong. To further my studies, I have completed a master’s degree in psychological research method at the University of Stirling, focusing on exploring the relationship between negative emotions and temporal memory for my dissertation project. During my placement at the Face Lab of the University of Stirling, I was involved in a project to identify underlying strategies for face matching in incongruent conditions. Shortly after my graduation, I joined the lab as a research assistant for a project to identify novel markers of concealed face recognition using an eyes tracker and various psychophysiological methods. I am now pursuing a PhD at Coventry University and Radboud University, with the privilege to work with Dr. Inti Brazil and Dr. Miguel Farias (Coventry University).
